Playing Slots

When you are playing slots the most important decision for each player is to decide upon the number of coins that you should play.  Your aim is to win symbols as soon as you pull the handle or hit the spin button.  Each player views the situation differently; some think that it is best to play the maximum number of coins, whereas others believe that the number of coins does not make a difference at all.

There are basically seven different groups of slot machines, and in each category the payoffs are determined in a particular way.  It is important for you to know how each category functions, before you set your money working.

The simplest straight multiplier slot machine belongs to the first category.  The winning combination is determined by the number of coins which are played.  Hence when you are playing slots here it is best to put in one coin per spin, because the average payoff remains the same, irrespective of how many coins you have played.

In the bonus multiplier machine you might get a bonus payoff for playing maximum coins, and that is what the players are encouraged to do. The trick is that you are eligible for the bonus only by putting in the maximum number of coins. The buy-a-pay category of slots also operates with maximum coins, as the payback on these machines for one coin is low, and progressively higher for a two coin play.

Progressive slot machines generate huge amounts of money because they are a group of slot machines linked by a network.  The jackpot can therefore be huge because it grows as more people play into the machine.  There are three basic categories of progressive slot machines.  They are The Stand Alone Progressive, In-House or Proprietary Progressive and the Wide Area Progressive.

The Stand Alone Progressives are not linked to any other machines; hence the jackpots are considerably low.  The In-House or Proprietary Progressives are machines which are linked within a casino or within several properties of a gaming company. The jackpots are substantially large, but naturally not as large as the Wide Area Progressives, where the machines are linked to a large number of casinos.

There is a combination of machines as well, like the multiplier – cum – buy-a-pay machine. When you play the first two coins it is a buy-a-pay machine, and for the third one it becomes a multiplier.  When you are playing slots on such machines, it is best to play max coins, so that you can get the bonus round as well.  It is therefore important for you to know the type of online slot machine that you are playing, so that you can calculate the number of coins that you should play.
